What is tachograph analysis?
Tachograph analysis is processing downloaded data to identify breaches of drivers' hours and working time rules, and to find gaps and discrepancies in the record.

</figure>Holding the data and analysing it are different obligations in practice, even where only one is written down. Data in a folder satisfies a retention requirement and protects nobody.
The output has to reach the driver. Analysis that identifies infringements and stops there has generated a list of breaches the operator now demonstrably knew about and did nothing with.
Trends are the useful part. Whether infringements are rising or falling, and whether they cluster on a route or a driver, tells an operator what to change.
What goes wrong in practice
- Reports produced monthly and filed without being read.
- Infringements identified but never put to the driver or signed.
- Analysis outsourced with nobody internally reading the output.
