What is DVSA Earned Recognition?
DVSA Earned Recognition is a voluntary scheme in which operators share maintenance and drivers' hours data against set key performance indicators, and in return are less likely to be stopped at the roadside.
It reverses the usual posture. Instead of being assessed on encounters, the operator reports continuously and is audited, which suits a business whose systems are already good and whose problem is the time enforcement takes.
Entry requires systems capable of producing the data on a schedule, and an audit. That threshold is the point: the scheme is a recognition of an existing regime rather than a way of building one.
Staying in it is conditional. KPIs that move the wrong way trigger review, so it is a standing commitment rather than an accreditation obtained once.
What goes wrong in practice
- Applying before the underlying records can actually be produced on demand, which the audit surfaces immediately.
- Treating it as a badge for marketing rather than as an ongoing reporting obligation.
