Tail lift LOLER checklist.
A checklist for operators running tail lifts, covering the thorough examination regime that applies to lifting equipment separately from vehicle maintenance.
FleetOptix records that a thorough examination happened and when the next one is due. It does not carry out the examination or certify the equipment, which is a competent person's job.

What is on the sheet
- Equipment identification and location on the vehicle
- Date of the last thorough examination and who carried it out
- Pre-use checks by the operator between examinations
- Defects, restrictions on use and the date returned to service
Why this record matters
A tail lift is lifting equipment as well as part of a vehicle, and it carries its own examination regime under separate legislation from the one governing roadworthiness. That catches operators out: a vehicle can be fully compliant on its maintenance file and still have a tail lift outside its examination date.
Because the two regimes run on different clocks and are often held by different people, the practical control is simply knowing which assets have lifting equipment on them at all. That is a register question before it is an inspection one.
Use it with
- Trailer walkaround checklistA walkaround checklist for trailers, covering coupling, braking and load-security items that a tractor-unit check does not reach.
- PMI safety inspection sheetA preventative maintenance inspection sheet recording the safety-critical items checked, the measurements taken and the declaration that the vehicle is roadworthy.
