New driver induction checklist.
An induction checklist for new drivers, covering the documents to see, the briefings to give and the records that prove both happened.
This is the paper version. FleetOptix does the same job on a phone, with the record filed against the vehicle or the driver automatically.

What is on the sheet
- Documents seen and copied at the point of hire
- Walkaround and defect reporting procedure, briefed and acknowledged
- Drivers' hours and tachograph procedure, briefed and acknowledged
- Driver signature and date against each item
Why this record matters
Induction is where a fleet's procedures either enter a driver's working habits or do not, and it is also the single cheapest moment to create evidence. A signed induction record establishes that the driver was told what the operator expects, which is the question asked after something goes wrong.
The item most often skipped is the acknowledgement rather than the briefing. Drivers are usually told how defect reporting works; far fewer fleets can produce a signature showing they were.
Use it with
- Driver licence check formA form for recording driver licence checks — what was checked, what it showed, who checked it and when the next check falls due.
- Driver CPC expiry trackerA spreadsheet for tracking Driver CPC hours and expiry dates across a fleet, so qualifications are renewed before they lapse rather than after.
- HGV walkaround check sheetA printable daily walkaround check sheet for HGVs, covering the items a driver is expected to inspect before the vehicle is used and the record that proves they did.
- Drivers' hours cheat sheetA one-page summary of the drivers' hours limits for a cab door or an office wall, written as a reminder for people who already work to them.
